Christian Entrepreneur Deepak Mahtani – From Hinduism to Christianity via the highway of tragedy

DeepakDeepak Mahtani had everything he ever dreamed of in life: money, a flourishing company, class, and business degrees from Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan, and American College, Switzerland. He followed his family’s tradition of serving the Eastern gods and rested assured that he was living life to the fullest. Born into a Sindhi Indian family, Mahtani grew up learning the Hindu scriptures, attending their services and participating in the rituals that come along with the faith. His father was a businessman from Pakistan who fled to India because of tribal persecution. He settled in Bombay with a few rupees and started a business. Not long afterward, he got on a cargo ship and relocated 6,000 miles to Indonesia.

He gave birth to his son Deepak and two other siblings in Hong Kong, and four years later, relocated to Japan. They still practiced their Hindu religion and his father always drilled into the heads of his children that -money and success is all that you need to be happy in life.-

He had no idea that hell was around the corner until an unexpected tragedy struck and changed his life for good. His sister came to visit him in Geneva for two weeks. She had an automobile accident and died instantly. It was a very traumatic experience that left him in severe depression for six months. He lost interest in his business, started smoking, was drinking excessively and suicidal until he met a fellow Sindhi Indian in Geneva who was a Christian. This new friend tried to introduce him to his Christian God but Mathani was adamant. His friend encouraged him not to reject the Christian God, but to focus on the man Jesus and His word. Bathani got a Bible and began reading the words of Jesus in red and gradually started believing in the God of the Bible.

At the age of 12, Mahtani lost his mother to kidney disease. Even though he was the baby of the family, he was determined to succeed at all costs. Upon graduation from school, he started an electronics distribution company that he took from zero to $4 million in four years. His wealth came with a luxurious lifestyle: first-class travel, five-star hotels, nice clothes and money to do whatever he wanted. He was fluent in English, French, Spanish, Japanese, and two Indian languages. His busy schedule did not accommodate anything to do with God; he was brutally aggressive about getting what he wanted to the point of pushing people out of the way without blinking an eye. For Mahtani back then, what could be sweeter than the -heaven- he was experiencing on earth?

He had no idea that hell was around the corner until an unexpected tragedy struck and changed his life for good. His sister came to visit him in Geneva for two weeks-then got in a car accident and died instantly. The trauma of her death left him in severe depression for six months. He lost interest in his business, started smoking, was drinking excessively and suicidal until he met a fellow Sindhi Indian in Geneva who was a Christian. This new friend tried to introduce him to his Christian God, but Mahtani was adamant. His friend encouraged him not to reject the Christian God but to focus on the man Jesus and His Word. Mahtani got a Bible and began reading the words of Jesus in red and gradually started believing in the God of the Bible.

After praying without success to other gods for one good night’s sleep, his request was granted by the God of the Bible. That was how he gave his life to Christ. Today, he shares the Gospel all over the world, especially with Hindus and Sikhs and business people. He is actively involved in leadership in his local church and is married to Celia. They have two grown boys–Arun and Sanjay.

When he first converted to Christianity, his family members were unhappy and extremely skeptical. Over time they saw the positive impact of his new-found faith. His act of loving and accepting his family despite their differences in belief caused his older sister and niece to turn to Christianity.

Today, Mahtani is a management training consultant specializing in understanding culture and working with different cultures, especially those of India, Japan, and China. He has coached and trained hundreds of senior managers who are involved in outsourcing to Indian companies and in remote team management around the globe. Most of his clients are FTSE100 and Fortune 500 companies, and he sits on a number of boards.

Apart from his business interests, he is actively involved in a number of charities both in the UK and South Asia that raise funds for health, development, and education in developing countries. He was included in the International Who’s Who of Professionals (2001). He recently participated in writing a book called Sindhi Journeys of Faith–20 stories of Sindhis around the world who have come to know Christ. All 2,000 copies of the book have been distributed, and another reprint is being planned.

-After 20 years of being a follower of Jesus Christ, He has answered my prayers,- Mahtani says, summing up his Christian experience. -Today, I am even more successful than I ever was, not because of money but because of the people I met through my faith as I traveled round the world.-

His message for the world is, -God is a God of love, and Jesus is his means of demonstrating that for each one of his children. He so wants a relationship with each one of us. Don’t think of it as a religion but rather as a love story. Also don’t believe and live the lies that have been spoken over you by the evil one and people who he uses to discourage us.-

Let us lift up Deepak Mahtani in prayer–that the Lord will continue to empower him to reach others with the Good News, in the name of Jesus. Pray that his efforts will not be in vain and unlimited favor will be his portion at all times, in Jesus’ name.

Are You Really A Real Estate Investor

By accident, I believe that our industry does us all a disservice. How? By calling us real estate investors.
How many of you call yourselves real estate investors? Lots. How many of you feel a little queasy when you introduce yourself as a real estate investor? (No need to confess you just need to recognize that feeling).

Do you want to know why you may be feeling queasy? I’ll tell you. It’s because of the incongruent language we are using on ourselves. Let me prove it while helping bust the number one fear of real estate “investors”.

What do you think of when you hear the word investor?
I bet it’s “cash” or “credit”. Right? Maybe something that you feel that you don’t have. So if your business card declares you a real estate investor and you don’t have any cash, do you feel funny, or out of integrity, or incongruent? Maybe a little?

On the other hand, what do you think of when you hear the word entrepreneur? The answers to this question usually range from “opportunist” to “opportunities” to “ideas” to “deals”, etc.

The definition of an entrepreneur is someone who uses the time, talent and treasure of other people to realize their idea or vision. Read that again because this a subtle but important point about your real estate success.

The number one limiting belief of real estate “investors” is “I cannot do this business because I have little cash and/or bad credit.” And if your subconscious holds this belief, guess how hard you are going to work to find deals. Guess how many deals your are likely to do. That’s right, you will do ZERO.

Good news! This limiting belief is easily busted.
You are not a real estate investor. You are a real estate entrepreneur.

What’s the difference? Well, entrepreneurs bring the deals to the money. Investors bring the money to the deals.

By DEFINITION, entrepreneurs are not expected to use their own cash. They are expected to raise cash for their deals and projects. That’s what we do. We find the one thing that is much more valuable than the cash which is the deals.

Money is easy. Finding the deals is the part that requires a little work. But most real estate “investors” get hung up in marketing or making an offer because they don’t have the cash sitting in their checking account. They freeze.

You need to declare yourself a “Real Estate Entrepreneur.” That’s what I do. At this stage of my life, it’s more fun being the entrepreneur and putting deals together. It’s my form of creativity. It’s my art. Being the investor and putting up the cash is OK but it’s kind of like being the guy that furnished the paint to Michelangelo. Nobody remembers the paint supply guy.

I urge you to adopt 2 new affirmation(s):
I am a real estate entrepreneur.
I am leveraging the time, talent and treasure of others.

Become an Effective Entrepreneur

Become an Effective Entrepreneur

If people could understand their roles and specifics, they’d discover the different paths our economy can offer, despite its downfalls. Entrepreneurs play an essential role throwing a lifeline to others in this economic recession. Aside from the profit, entrepreneurs are also recognized and rewarded for their hard work and dedication. In this day and age there are more Entrepreneurs than in any other part of history. More and more people are starting to realize the benefits of working for them selves.

The cost of education is becoming out of reach for the average middle class citizen, and unless you have made provision for your child’s education, you will have to either rely on bursaries or student loans to get by. Becoming an Entrepreneur is the next generations answer. More and more people are seeing the benefits of working for themselves. Even better to work online, with a world of customers out there, the sky is the limit.

To be an Entrepreneur, you need to behave like an Entrepreneur. People need to recognize your worth as somebody who once dreamed and then conquered. Consistency and dedication are two great characteristics one needs to be successful.

Modern day Entrepreneurs have different roles to establish. A role in the market industry, a role in the leadership of individual’s who work under you, a role to make new discoveries, a role in making the world perceive change amidst this economic struggle, a role to his fellow laborers, a role to his suppliers, a role to his competitors and a role to self-fulfillment.

The Internet Market Place has always been crowded with buyers and sellers. The thrill of discovering a new product online entices clients to want more than expected. Satisfaction must be guaranteed. One of the most important roles of an aspiring entrepreneur is to always keep customer satisfaction at its highest point. They should understand the difference between the wants and needs of their consumers. Providing the available resources is not enough to satisfy a need because people are born to crave for more than the usual amount given.

An entrepreneur should always be on the lookout for new creations and new ideas. If worse comes to worse, he could always revitalize his resources by trying special strategies, for example offering discounts, free samples, etc.

Battling everyday disappointments and struggles can make a man fall to his knees and give up everything he has worked hard for. But at the end of the day there would still be hope to do better. This is a world where competition makes history.

At the end of the day, when work is done, you’d like to have flashbacks of that profitable deal you had, or the warm feeling that you have helped somebody else to make a lot of money. That’s self-fulfillment. No, it wouldn’t be only for the money but also for self respect and recognition.

The Successful Entrepreneurs D.r.e.a.m.

When one chooses to become an entrepreneur, 99% of the time it begins with a dream. It could be a dream of one day not having to punch a clock, or being able to spend more time with their family, or even seeing their invention flourish”…..who knows? Regardless they eventually become obsessed with it enough to take action and start making changes in their lives. All because of this one dream the ones that make it become successful entrepreneurs.

I thought it would be best when discussing the traits of successful entrepreneurs we to start with that D.R.E.A.M:

Dedication
Responsibility
Education
Attitude
Motivation

Every successful entrepreneur you”have ever heard of, regardless of every other vision they have, have this same D.R.E.A.M.

DEDICATION

Everything that’s worth anything in life requires a certain amount of dedication and commitment. Think about all the successful entrepreneurs you know on and offline. They all began, for the most part, with their sacrifice of time and money. Their sacrifice represents their dedication. They are so dedicated that they will sacrifice whatever’s necessary in order to reach the goal. That kind of dedication and commitment will always pay off. Good things always come to those who are patient, and willing to stick with it.

RESPONSIBILITY

Successful entrepreneurs have no choice in the matter of responsibility. Whether they are building a corporate empire or creating a blog to give people information, accepting responsibility is a must. Also, no one can be an effective leader without being a responsible person. I mean think about it. Think about the most responsible people in your life. How many of them are successful? Have they accomplished a lot more than those who are irresponsible in your life? Trust me when I say if you know an irresponsible entrepreneur they are most likely unsuccessful and BROKE!!!!

EDUCATION

An education in this world is the difference between making 30k a year and 30 million a year. Some of the most influential and successful entrepreneurs invested a huge amount of time, energy, effort, and sometimes money into their education. Now one doesn’t always have to have a formal education to get ahead in life, but you do need to take the time to learn the ins and outs of whatever business venture you plan to get into. Without knowledge the world would be lost and so would any entrepreneur.

ATTITUDE

If you”have ever watched or read any interviews from a successful entrepreneur they usually begin with talking about their attitude and mindset. It’s so important to have the right mindset when it comes to business and having your own. If you don’t believe in yourself or your business, no one else will. It’s because of this that any book you read or seminar you go to about being a successful entrepreneur begins with showing you the importance of a positive attitude. Anyone with a pessimistic attitude will never be successful in business or life for that matter.

MOTIVATION

What is your why? Have you been asked this question before? Your why is so important because it’s your motivation. Your motivation is so important because it fuels your dedication. And we’ve already discussed why that’s so important. Motivation is just as important as attitude. Without a WHY nothing will get accomplished. Without motivation successful entrepreneurs wouldn’t even try. So one more time what is your Why? As soon as you have this you’ll all the fuel you need to get anything accomplished.

Conclusion

There are a lot of dreams to be had by entrepreneurs. Most of them may or may not come true, but successful entrepreneurs share this one dream, and it definitely helps in their success. I hope an explanation of their common D.R.E.A.M. helps with you success. And hopefully allows you to reach your goals and become the successful entrepreneur you want to be.

Top Startup Tips By International Entrepreneur, David Cleevely

Chairman of the world-leading Cambridge Wireless network and an adviser to successive UK governments, Dr Cleevely helped revolutionise broadband delivery in Cambridge. He founded telecoms consultancy Analysys in 1985 and has founded many other influential technology businesses including 3WayNetworks, Abcam and spectrum monitoring company CRFS. He was a co-founder of Cambridge Network and in 2009 became founding chairman for Cambridge Universitys new Centre for Science and Policy.

Q: What would you advise any startups – not just technology but any industry sector – to treat as priorities to get their companies off the ground?
Make sure that you have more money than you think you need (because it won’t be enough). Find people who can sort out the hygiene factors for you book-keeping, accounting, recruitment, contracts and so on are dealt with by people who do this kind of thing all the time and can do it much more quickly and effectively than you. Finally, think big you need to plan all the systems and processes that you are using so that they can scale-up. So, for example, it is worth investing in a little bit of software that makes something routine even if it costs you something in investment now because later on that process will free up time for you to do the important stuff.

Q: What was the biggest challenge you faced in starting your first major venture?
Making sure that all the processes work together and that no time was wasted. Quite often start-ups find it very difficult to plan and conserve resources and to do things in a systematic way so that they are efficient even as a small-scale. (This is based on my experience at Analysys).

Q: Do you think difficulty in engaging with funders was due to their lack of understanding or your inability to explain the proposition?
My first real experience of getting funding was with Abcam. Where the people knew me already it was very easy to explain what we were doing and for them to enthusiastically support us. When it came to pitching to people who see many of these business plans every day it was almost impossible to convince them that there was anything worthwhile in the proposition. So I think it’s neither the lack of understanding nor an inability to explain the proposition but the provenance of the message that is really important.
